Spearmint is an herb valued not only for its flavor but also its medicinal properties.  It can be brewed in tea, eaten plain or added to cooked dishes.  Like other mint plants, spearmint can easily take over a garden and is best planted in individual pots.  It does well in partial shade with moist soil.
